DC SLICE IMAGING, CROSSED BEAM REACTION OF CHLORINE RADICALWITH BUTANEbyTAREK ABDUL GHANIDecember 2012Advisor: Dr. Arthur SuitsMajor: ChemistryDegree: Master of ScienceWe present an investigation of the reaction dynamics of Cl radicals withbutane in crossed beams, were studied at two collision energies: ~ 6.5 and 9kcal/mol. Product were ionized using a 157 nm probe laser, and detection wasthrough a dc slice detection setup. The translational energy distributionintegrated over all scattering angles; look similar for both collision energies. Theangular distribution shows that at high collision energy the there is a sharpincrease in the forward scattering. At low collision energy there is morebackscattering. The results show that the different scattering angles give differenttranslational energy distribution. The forward scattered peaks at approximately85% of the collision energy, with a similar distribution for both collision energies. The sideways-scattered product shows the broader distribution that extends intohigher energy. The back-scattered product showed the broadest distribution anda higher fraction of total energy showing up in translational energy.

Crossed-Beam Imaging of the H Abstraction Channel in the Reaction of CN with 1-Pentene

The reaction of the cyano radical with 1-pentene has been studied in crossed molecular beams experiments at a range of collision energies from 5 to 9 kcal/mol. In these studies, the pentenyl radical product is probed using singlephoton ionization at 157 nm, and the product flux contourmap is obtained directly using DC slice imaging. The results clearly demonstrate the presence of the hydrogen a...

State-resolved reactive scattering by slice imaging: a new view of the Cl+C2H6 reaction.

We present state-resolved crossed beam scattering results for the reaction Cl+C2H6-->HCl+C2H5, obtained using direct current slice imaging. The HCl (v=0,J=2) image, recorded at a collision energy of 6.7+/-0.6 kcalmol, shows strongly coupled angular and translational energy distributions revealing features of the reaction not seen in previous studies. The overall distribution is mainly forward s...

Investigation of the O+allyl addition/elimination reaction pathways from the OCH(2)CHCH(2) radical intermediate.

These experiments study the preparation of and product channels resulting from OCH(2)CHCH(2), a key radical intermediate in the O+allyl bimolecular reaction. The data include velocity map imaging and molecular beam scattering results to probe the photolytic generation of the radical intermediate and the subsequent pathways by which the radicals access the energetically allowed product channels ...

Effect of Slice Thickness on the Accuracy of Linear Measurements Made on Cone Beam Computed Tomography Images (InVitro

Objective: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is applied for the imaging of the maxillofacial and dental structures, particularly for surgical treatments and dental implants. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of slice thickness on the accuracy of CBCT linear measurements. Methods: In this diagnostic accuracy study, forty-two titanium pins with the same dimensions were inserted...

Evaluation of MRI-based Polymer Gel Dosimetry for Measurement of CT Dose Index (CTDI) on 64 slices CT Scanners

Introduction: Computed tomography (CT) has numerous applications in clinical procedures but its main problem is its high radiation dose to the patients compared to other imaging modalities using x-ray. CT delivers approximately high doses to the nearby tissues due to the scattering effect, fan beam (beam divergence) and limited collimator efficiency. The radiation dose from multi-slice scanners...
